UC Davis 11, Portland 2 (at Moraga, Calif. with their three-hit games on Sunday, Lynch and Barker collected their team-high fourth multiple-hit games of the season. Cordy became only the second UC Davis starting pitcher to be credited with the win this season - both of them coming this weekend against Portland. NOTES: After collecting just 29 hits (five for extra bases) in their four-game, season-opening series with Seattle, the Aggies exploded for 48 hits over the weekend in Moraga - including 14 for extra bases). The four-game set will be played at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Wash., home of the Tacoma Rainiers - the AAA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. UC Davis remains on the road for its second, four-game series of the season next weekend, heading north to take on the University of Washington beginning Friday (Feb. Batty with his second-inning single, reached base safely for the eighth-consecutive game, while Olson and Lynch extended their team-best hitting streaks to four games. Eight of the nine batters in the starting lineup finished with at least one hit, while a trio of Aggies (Lynch, Cameron Olson, and March) each scored a pair of runs. An error plated an eighth run in the fifth inning while Barker drove in two more with an RBI single in the sixth and a run-scoring double in the eighth. Portland, which tallied its only two runs in the game on a bases-loaded walk in the first and an RBI double by Cody Lenahan in the second, managed eight hits for the game, but left 10 runners on base - five of those in scoring position - including the bases loaded in the sixth. Steven Patterson added an RBI single in the second while Tino Lipson and Seth Batty added RBI singles in the third for the Aggies, who finished with five extra-base hits and were hit by a pitch five times in the game. Nick Lynch, who had homered four times in the first three games of the tournament, had an RBI single to kick-off the scoring and was followed by run-scoring hits from Austin March (two-run triple) and Kevin Barker (RBI single) for the 4-0 lead. It was a stark contrast from the first meeting between the two schools this weekend when UC Davis jumped out to a 7-1 lead only to have to hang on for an 8-7 win as the Pilots scored twice in the ninth and left the tying run on base. The Aggies, who reached double-digit hits for the third-consecutive game, struck early and often against the Portland pitching staff, scoring seven times in the first three innings to jump out to the early advantage and cruise from there. Junior Kurt Yinger (0-1) - the first of five Pilot pitchers on the day - suffered the loss, charged with seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits in just 2 1/3 innings. Freshman Zach Stone earned his first career save, scattering just two hits and striking out four over the final 3 2/3 innings to close out the contest. The offensive outburst was more than enough for starter Max Cordy (1-0), as the sophomore right-hander allowed just two runs on six hits while striking out five in 5 1/3 innings of work. Portland fell to 3-4 overall and finished 1-3 in tournament play. Thanks to a season-high scoring output, UC Davis won its third-straight contest and evened its record at 4-4 overall on the season, finishing 3-1 in tournament play while defeating the Pilots for the second time on the weekend.
